Description

A round side table cast in aluminium, 45cm tall and 37cm across, standing on three legs. The top is dished, with a raised rim round the edge that turns it into a shallow tray. Each leg is a flat blade, widest where it meets the underside of the top and drawn to a fine point at the floor. The whole piece is finished in brass, and the cast surface is left pitted and uneven rather than worked smooth, so the brass reads bright on the high points and darker in the pits.

At 45cm the top sits about level with the arm of an armchair, and the raised rim means a glass set down on it will not travel if the table is knocked. At 37cm across it stands beside a single chair rather than between two. There is a larger Rohia at 53cm tall and 43cm across, and the small one tucks under it when it is not in use.

The table is aluminium throughout. It is sand cast: a mould is formed in compacted sand, molten aluminium is poured in and covered until it cools, and then the baked sand is broken open to release the casting. Whatever texture comes off the sand is left as it is, so the pattern of pitting differs on every table, and the brass finish goes on over the top of it.

Sand cast aluminium with a brass finish.

Does the larger one come with it?

No. The larger Rohia is 53cm tall and 43cm across and is sold on its own.

Can I stand a hot drink on it?

Use a coaster. The finish can mark where it meets a hot drink or liquid.
