Description

The Rohia is a round side table cast in aluminium, 53cm high with a top 43cm across. The top is dished, with a raised lip round the edge that makes it read as a shallow tray, and it stands on three slender legs that flare where they meet the underside and taper to a point at the floor. The surface is textured and unevenly toned, with an irregular patina left in the metal by the casting.

At 53cm high with a 43cm top this stands beside an armchair or at the end of a sofa, and the raised lip round the top keeps a glass from sliding off it. It weighs 3.5kg, so it moves with one hand. The Rohia is also made at 45cm high with a 37cm top, and the smaller one tucks under this one when it is not in use.

It is sand cast: a mould is formed from compacted sand, molten aluminium is poured in and covered over until the metal cools, then the baked sand is cracked open to release the piece. That is where the texture comes from, and it means no two tables carry the same pattern. A brass finish goes on afterwards.

Frequently Asked

How big is it?

53cm high, with a top 43cm across.

What is it made of?

Aluminium, sand cast, under a brass finish.

Why is the surface uneven?

It is sand cast, so the texture of the sand mould is left in the metal and every table is patterned differently.

Is a smaller one made?

Yes, at 45cm high with a 37cm top. It tucks under this one.

How do I look after it?

Wipe spills with a damp cloth and dry them at once so they do not mark. Use coasters under drinks, because the finish can mark where it meets a hot drink or liquid. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive materials away from it.
