Description

The Knightsbridge RJ45 network outlet provides a single shuttered CAT5e Ethernet port behind a matt white screwless faceplate. The outlet uses IDC (insulation displacement) terminals on the rear for tool-free cable termination, with a punch-down tool included in the box. The shuttered port protects the internal contacts from dust when not in use and opens automatically when an RJ45 plug is inserted.

Designed for residential and light commercial Ethernet installations, the outlet suits home offices, living rooms, bedrooms and study areas where hard-wired network connections are needed for desktop computers, printers, network switches or media streaming devices. The low-profile screwless design sits 4.3mm proud of the wall once fitted, giving a cleaner finish than traditional screw-fixed faceplates. A built-in gasket between the plate and the wall surface helps exclude dust from the back box.

The 87.5mm square plate is constructed from premium-grade steel with a matt white finish that pairs with standard white or off-white walls and blends with other Knightsbridge matt white switches and sockets. The outlet is certified to BS 5733 for data cabling applications and carries an IP20 rating for dry indoor use. A write-on designation label on the rear of the faceplate allows the installer to mark which room or device the port serves, useful in multi-outlet installations.

What back box depth is required?

A 35mm minimum back box depth is needed for installation. The screwless cover plate adds 4.3mm of projection from the wall once fitted.

Does the outlet support Gigabit Ethernet?

Yes. CAT5e cabling supports Gigabit Ethernet (1000BASE-T) at distances up to 100 metres, which covers typical residential and small office runs.

Is a termination tool included?

Yes. The outlet ships with an IDC punch-down tool for terminating the cable to the rear terminals. No additional tools are needed for cable termination, though a cable stripper and tester are recommended for the installation.

Can it be used with CAT6 cable?

The outlet is rated for CAT5e. While it will physically accept CAT6 cable on the IDC terminals, the port itself is not certified to CAT6 specification. For certified CAT6 performance, use a CAT6-rated outlet from the Knightsbridge range.
