Description
A candle holder in hand blown glass, 13cm high and 13cm across, with a silvered upper body and a thick band of crushed glass around the base. The silvering is uneven, so the wall reads milky white in some lights and closer to mirror in others, with a warmer line running round the rim. The crushed glass covers the bottom third in a coarse crust that stands proud of the wall.
At 13cm across the opening is wide and a tealight sits well down inside it, so the light goes up the silvered wall rather than out across the table. Lit, the whole body glows amber and the crusted base breaks the light into small points. That suits a mantel, a window ledge or the centre of a table at a winter meal, where it is seen from above as much as from the side. The tealight stands loose on the flat base rather than dropping into a socket.
The glass is recycled and hand blown, then silvered by hand using a traditional mirroring method, which is why the finish is uneven and reads aged. Chips of recycled glass are pressed into the outside of the base while the glass is still hot, so the crust falls differently on one holder from the next. A smaller size is made in the same finish. The candle is not included.

Frequently Asked
What candle does it take?
A tealight. It stands on the flat base rather than dropping into a socket.
Can it be used outdoors?
No. Indoor use only.
What is the crusted band around the bottom?
Chips of recycled glass, pressed into the surface while the glass is still hot. They catch the flame once the candle is lit.
How do I look after it?
Wipe it regularly with a soft, dry cloth to prevent a build up of dust or dirt, and use a microfibre cloth in a circular motion on the glass. To take off excess wax, use warm water with a mild dish soap, dry it immediately and do not leave it to soak.
Does it get hot in use?
Yes. Position the candle securely and make sure the flame is not directed at the glass. Keep it out of reach of children, wait until it has cooled fully before handling it, and never leave a burning candle unattended.
