The Medway is a set of four round ceramic coasters finished with a reactive blue and green glaze that varies across each piece. Each coaster measures 11cm in diameter and 1cm thick, with a smooth glazed top surface and an unglazed base that grips table surfaces without scratching. The reactive glaze creates irregular gradients of charcoal grey, teal and soft cream that differ between individual coasters depending on kiln position during firing.

Designed for hot drinks, cold glasses and general surface protection on dining tables, coffee tables and desk surfaces, the coasters sit flat and stable under mugs, tumblers and stemmed glassware. The 11cm diameter accommodates most standard mug bases with margin to spare, while the 1cm thickness keeps hot ceramics raised clear of wood and lacquered finishes. The set is tied with a cotton ribbon for gifting or storage.

The reactive glaze is applied before firing and reacts unpredictably to kiln heat, oxygen levels and neighbouring pieces, producing the tonal shifts visible in the image. No two coasters match exactly — some show more grey, others more teal or cream. The smooth glazed surface is non-porous and wipes clean with a damp cloth, though the glaze may show water marks if left to air-dry rather than towel-dried after washing.
