Description

This is a small stoneware vase shaped in a rounded gourd silhouette, with a bulbous lower body that narrows and swells again towards a short neck and open top. It measures 8cm wide by 8cm deep and stands 12cm tall, weighing around 0.23kg, so it sits comfortably in the hand and takes up little surface space. The finish is a smooth speckled reactive glaze in deep brown, drawing out chocolate tones flecked with gold across the body. It is a decorative piece only and is not water safe.

The compact size makes it easy to place on a shelf, bedside table, mantle or windowsill without crowding the area around it. We like it standing on its own where the curved shape can be seen clearly, or grouped with two or three other vessels of varying heights for a layered display. The warm brown and gold speckling works well against neutral walls, pale wood and cream ceramics, and adds depth to a darker or more textural setting. Use it dry with faux stems, dried grasses or seed heads to suit the shape while keeping within its decorative purpose.

Each vase is made from ceramic stoneware and hand-finished, then completed with a reactive glaze that develops its own pattern during firing. Because of this, tone and speckle placement vary from piece to piece, so no two are identical. The glossy glaze gives a smooth surface across the body and around the rim. As it is not water safe, keep liquid out and use it for dry arrangements or as a standalone object. To care for it, dust with a soft dry cloth, or wipe gently with a slightly damp cloth and dry straight away. Handle with care as ceramic can chip or crack if knocked.
