Description
A hurricane lantern 31cm tall: a straight-sided glass cylinder, open at the top, seated in a shallow cast metal base. The base is left hammered and uneven rather than worked smooth, and the brass finish over it reads deep gold in the hollows and paler across the raised ground. The glass is plain and uncoloured, so the whole height of the candle shows through it, and the candle stands on the metal floor inside the base.
At 31cm this is the larger of the two Rajura sizes, against 26cm for the small. The glass stands well clear of a church pillar candle, so the flame burns down inside the cylinder rather than above it. The base is 21cm across, a wide foot for a mantelpiece or a stone ledge, and the two sizes stand well together on one. Indoor use only.
The base is cast aluminium and the cylinder is glass. Casting leaves every base slightly different, so the hammered texture and the way the brass sits across it vary from one lantern to the next. Rajura is made in two sizes, 31cm and 26cm. The candle is not included.

Frequently Asked
What sort of candle does it take?
A church pillar candle. It stands on the metal floor of the base rather than dropping into a socket, so the diameter is open to you.
Can it be used outside?
Indoor use only.
What size is it?
31cm tall and 21cm across the base. The small Rajura stands 26cm.
What is the base made from?
Cast aluminium under a brass finish. Each casting comes out slightly different.
How should it be looked after?
Wipe it regularly with a soft, dry cloth to stop dust and dirt building up, and use a microfibre cloth in a circular motion on the glass. To take off wax, use warm water and a mild dish soap, dry it straight away and do not let it soak.
Does it get hot in use?
Yes. Stand the candle securely and keep the flame off the glass, keep it out of reach of children, wait until it has cooled fully before handling it, and never leave a burning candle unattended.
