Description

The QTX 6.3mm to 3.5mm stereo adaptor converts a standard quarter-inch jack plug (6.3mm) down to a 3.5mm stereo socket, allowing consumer audio devices with 3.5mm outputs to connect into professional equipment with 6.3mm inputs. The metal-bodied construction provides mechanical strength at the connection point, where cheaper plastic adaptors tend to fail under repeated insertion and removal.

Common uses include adapting 3.5mm headphone outputs from laptops, phones or tablets into 6.3mm headphone sockets on mixing consoles, studio monitors, DJ controllers and guitar amplifiers. The adaptor also works in reverse, allowing 6.3mm headphone plugs to connect into 3.5mm sockets on portable recorders, computers or audio interfaces that only provide mini-jack outputs. The stereo configuration passes both left and right channels through the adaptor without signal loss.

The compact 25mm length means the adaptor sits flush against equipment panels without protruding significantly, reducing the risk of lever damage if a cable is knocked or pulled. The nickel-plated metal barrel resists corrosion and maintains conductivity over time, while the knurled grip section allows the adaptor to be removed by hand without needing pliers. At approximately 8g, it adds minimal weight to a cable run or equipment bag.

Frequently Asked

Does this adaptor work with balanced signals?

No. This is a stereo adaptor designed for unbalanced stereo connections (tip-ring-sleeve carrying left, right and ground). It will physically connect to balanced equipment using TRS jacks, but the signal will not be balanced and may pick up noise over longer cable runs.

Can I use this to connect a microphone?

You can physically connect a 3.5mm microphone plug into the adaptor and then into a 6.3mm input, but the adaptor does not provide phantom power or impedance matching. It works for line-level signals and passive dynamic microphones, but condenser microphones needing phantom power require a dedicated mic preamp.

Will this reduce audio quality?

The adaptor itself introduces negligible signal loss when the connections are clean and tight. Audio quality depends more on the quality of the cables and equipment being connected. A well-made adaptor like this QTX model maintains the signal integrity of the source.

Is it durable enough for live use?

The metal construction and nickel plating make it suitable for regular studio and live use. The main wear point is the internal spring contact in the socket, which can loosen over hundreds of insertions, but for typical DJ, musician and home studio use the adaptor should last several years of regular handling.
