Description

The Pyaar Small is a mango wood bowl, 16cm across and 6cm deep, carved by hand. The outside is worked all over in rows of shallow oval gouges that overlap like scales, each one cut separately, while the inside is left smooth with the grain running plain across it. The bowl stands on a small foot and the rim is left thick. A flame is passed over the surface after the carving, which darkens the hollows and pulls the grain forward.

At 16cm across and 6cm deep it holds garlic, salt, olives or nuts on a table rather than a portion of food, and a matching tray is made alongside it. It is food safe. The gouged outside is easy to take hold of, so the bowl passes across a table without a hand slipping on it.

The bowl is mango wood. Each one is carved by hand, then a controlled flame is applied to the surface and the piece is smoothed by hand afterwards, so the darkening falls differently on every bowl and no two carry the same run of gouges. Pyaar also runs to a larger bowl, a tray, and a tray with a bowl together.

Frequently Asked

How big is it?

16cm across and 6cm deep.

Is it food safe?

Yes.

What makes the dark shading?

A controlled flame is applied to the surface after carving. It darkens the wood and makes the grain easier to see.

What is it made from?

Mango wood.

What else is in the range?

A larger bowl, a tray, and a tray with a bowl together.

How do I look after it?

Do not leave it soaking. Wash it in warm soapy water and dry it immediately with a cloth, which stops the wood taking on too much moisture and prevents warping or cracking.
