Description

A long oval serving tray in mango wood with a small round bowl that sits in a well at one end of it. The outside of the tray and the whole of the bowl are carved in overlapping rounded scales, cut deep enough to throw a shadow, while the inside of the tray is left plain and smooth. It measures 38cm long and 16cm across, and stands 10cm high with the bowl in place.

The long part of the tray takes crackers, sliced cheese or bread, and the bowl at the end takes olives, chutney or nuts without them running into the rest. At 38cm it lies across the middle of a table within reach from both sides.

Each piece is carved by hand from mango wood, so the grain and the depth of the cut differ from set to set. A controlled flame is then passed over the surface, which burns it lightly and brings the grain up darker, and the wood is smoothed by hand afterwards. The Pyaar range also holds a plain tray and serving bowls in two sizes.

Frequently Asked

How many pieces are there?

Two: the tray, and a round bowl that sits in a well at one end of it.

How big is it?

38cm long, 16cm across, and 10cm high with the bowl in place.

Is it food safe?

Yes.

Why is the surface darker in places?

A controlled flame is passed over the wood, which burns it lightly and brings the grain up darker. It is then smoothed by hand.

How do I look after it?

Wash it in warm soapy water and dry it straight away with a cloth. Do not leave it soaking: wood that takes on too much water will warp or crack.
