Description

The Purana is a lamp base built as a flattened orb, 33cm across and 25cm tall, so it sits wide and low rather than upright. The surface is worked in relief with a large open flower at the centre, its petals raised and outlined by cut lines, and long leaves running out around it. The ground between them is stippled all over with fine dots, so it catches light differently from the raised work. A short neck carries a brass collar and a black lampholder.

This is a base only: no shade and no bulb. At 25cm the base is low and at 33cm across it is wide, which puts it on a console or a sideboard with room either side rather than on a narrow bedside table. It takes one E27 bulb up to 60W, the cord runs 2.5m and the plug is UK and EU.

The base is aluminium. The pattern is pressed, embossed and etched into the metal by hand, and an aged brass patina is laid over it by hand afterwards, so the tone varies from one base to the next. Neither a shade nor a bulb is included.

No. It is the base only, with a brass collar and a black lampholder on top. Supplied without a shade.

Is the pattern the same on every base?

The design repeats, the detail does not. The relief is pressed and etched by hand and the patina is laid on by hand, so the depth of the work and the tone of the brass vary base to base.

Is it solid brass?

No. The base is aluminium, finished with a brass patina.

How do I clean it?

Unplug it, then wipe it with a soft dry cloth. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners off the patina.
