40W IP20 6ft Emergency Single LED Batten - Cool White 4000K

This 6ft LED batten runs on 40W and the pack rates it at 4,800 lumens, a figure that works out at 120 lumens per watt. The colour temperature is 4000K, a cool white with a clean blue edge that keeps a working space looking bright rather than cosy, and the pack quotes a colour rendering index over 80. The LED board is integral, so there is no tube to buy and no starter to fail. An opal polycarbonate diffuser spreads the output evenly along the length, and the module behind it is carried on an aluminium heat sink inside a white steel housing.

At 1734mm it fits the runs a fluorescent batten has always covered: garages, workshops, stores, plant rooms, utility areas and service corridors. It is IP20, which is no protection against water, so keep it to dry indoor positions. What does the emergency module do if the power goes off?

The internal battery takes over and keeps the fitting lit, and the pack states a three hour duration. The pack does not say whether it runs maintained or non maintained, so read the instructions before you design it into a scheme.

Do I need to buy a tube or a starter for it?

No. The LED board and driver are built into the body, so the fitting arrives complete and there is no tube, starter or ballast to source separately.

Can I run it from a dimmer switch?

No. The specification gives it as not dimmable, so it needs a plain on and off switch. Feeding a non dimmable driver from a dimmer module can cause flicker, buzzing or early failure.

What wattage of fluorescent tube does 40W of LED replace?

How does 4000K cool white look compared with warm white?
