LED Compatible 5ft IP65 Twin T8 Batten Fitting - White

This is a twin batten fitting: one housing that takes two 5ft T8 tubes and runs them side by side along its length. The body measures 1500mm, the standard 5ft batten size, and it is white with a ribbed translucent cover over the top. It is sealed to IP65, which means dust tight and protected against water jets from any direction, so dust and splashing water are kept outside the fitting. Because it takes tubes rather than having the light source built in, you set the brightness and the light colour by your choice of tube, and a tube can be changed later without touching the fitting itself.

A 5ft twin batten is the working light for a garage, a workshop, a store cupboard, a utility room or a covered outdoor area such as a car port. The IP65 rating also earns it a place in a bathroom, where it suits zones 1 and 2 but not zone 0, the space inside the bath or the shower tray. Two tubes rather than one matters most over a bench or a work surface, because a single line of light throws hard shadows and a second line set across the width of the fitting fills them in.

There is no dimming here: the fitting is listed as not dimmable, so plan on an ordinary switched circuit. No wattage, lumen or colour temperature figure is given for the fitting, because all three follow from the tubes you put in it. Are the tubes included?

The manufacturer does not state whether the two 5ft tubes are supplied with the fitting, so please treat the housing as the item and check before ordering if you have none spare.

What tubes does it take?

Two linear T8 tubes in the 5ft size. T8 tubes carry a two pin G13 cap at each end, which is the usual cap on both LED and older fluorescent 5ft tubes.

Can I fit it in a bathroom?

Yes. The IP65 rating covers zones 1 and 2, but not zone 0, which is the inside of the bath or the shower tray. All wiring should be carried out to the current regulations.

Can it be dimmed?

No. The manufacturer lists the fitting as not dimmable, so wire it to an ordinary switch rather than a dimmer, and choose your tubes on output instead.

Will it cope with a damp garage or a car port?

IP65 means the housing is dust tight and protected against water jets, so damp, dusty and wash down areas and covered outdoor spots are all within its rating.
