LED Compatible 4ft (1200mm) IP65 Single T8 Batten Fitting

This is a 4ft batten fitting, 1200mm end to end, made to take a single T8 linear tube and rated IP65. The body is moulded in grey with a clear ribbed diffuser that clips down over the tube, and the ribbing spreads the line of light so it reads as a soft band rather than a hard stripe. IP65 is the useful part: dust tight, and protected against water jets from any direction, which is the rating you want wherever the air carries sawdust, spray or damp. The manufacturer calls it LED compatible, so an LED T8 tube is an option alongside a conventional one.

A batten like this earns its place where light matters more than looks: garages, workshops, utility rooms, garden stores, cellars and covered car ports. At 1200mm it sits neatly along the centre line of a single garage bay, and a pair in line will cover a double. Because of the IP65 rating the manufacturer clears it for bathroom zones 1 and 2, though not zone 0, so it can go where an unrated indoor fitting cannot. Whichever room it lands in, check that the tube you buy is sold as suitable for a batten of this type.

There is no dimming and no motion sensor, so it runs on and off from whatever switch or circuit you put it on. Wattage, brightness and colour temperature are not stated for the fitting, because the tube you fit decides all three: a 4ft T8 in cool white is the usual choice over a bench, while warm white reads softer in a hallway or store. What tube does this batten take?

Is a tube supplied with it?

The manufacturer does not state whether a tube is included, so we cannot say either way. Plan on choosing a 4ft T8 tube to suit the brightness and colour of light you want in the room.

Can I fit it in a bathroom?

Yes, within limits. The IP65 rating covers zones 1 and 2 only, and never zone 0, which is the inside of the bath or shower basin itself. Any bathroom wiring should be done by a qualified electrician.

Can it be dimmed or switched by a sensor?

No. The specification gives dimmable as no and PIR as no, so it runs at full output from an ordinary switch, pull cord or lighting circuit with no dimming module.

How much light will it give and what colour?

Both come from the tube rather than the fitting, and no wattage, lumen figure or colour temperature is stated for the fitting. Cool white around 4000K suits benches and garages; warm white feels calmer in a store or hallway.

Will it cope with a damp, unheated garage or a covered outdoor spot?

IP65 means dust tight and protected against water jets from any direction, which covers damp air, hose splash and dusty workshops. No operating temperature range is printed, so treat very cold stores with care.
