Description
Our Porir wooden ornament is a small pedestal in reclaimed wood, painted brown and built like a miniature table, with a thick plank top resting on four chunky square legs. It is 30cm long, 18cm wide and 24cm tall and weighs 2.2KG, so it has real presence yet is easy to lift from room to room. Its job is height: set a plant, a vase or a favourite object on top and it raises that piece clear of everything around it, which is exactly what a good display needs.
With a maximum load of 10KG it is a stand for things rather than a seat. On a living room floor it lifts a potted plant to a better height; beside an armchair it holds a stack of books; on a console or a deep windowsill it works as a riser that gives a vase or a sculpture its own stage. It is low enough to tuck in at the end of a sofa or in a hallway without crowding the space, and in a bedroom it makes a neat perch for a jewellery dish or a framed photograph.
The composition is 100% reclaimed wood, and reclaimed timber carries the marks of its earlier life: here the top shows open grain, saw marks and small knocks beneath the painted finish, and the boards of the top meet in visible joins. A small block sits under the top, between the legs. The maker's assembly instructions come as a PDF download. Reclaimed wood varies from board to board, so the grain and marks on yours will differ in detail, which is much of its appeal. For styling, set it against a pale wall so the brown wood reads clearly, or stand it next to taller pieces so a display climbs in steps.
