Description

Polivia is a small piece of wall art in dolomite ceramic, built up from layered abstract forms. A ring with an off-centre, bean-shaped opening sits over a broad arc, and behind them a flat panel meets a section with a rolling, wavy edge. Every surface on the front is handpainted and multicoloured, and you can see the brushwork where the paint thins and gathers. It measures 21cm long, 5.5cm wide and 21cm tall and weighs 0.82KG, so it hangs as a compact ceramic relief with real depth, quite different from a flat framed print.

Because it is compact, it suits the short stretches of wall that a large picture would crowd: beside a window, above a side table or console, or in the narrow space between a door frame and the corner of a room. We like it in a living room already full of pattern, where its layered colour holds its own, and just as much on a plain pale wall in a hallway, bedroom or home office, where it gives an empty spot a point of interest.
