Description

Our Polivia vase is a straight-sided ceramic cylinder, 18cm tall and 9.5cm across, painted by hand in a multicoloured pattern of bold, rounded shapes. Those shapes stand proud of the surface rather than lying flat, so the pattern catches the light as you pass and gives the vase a sculpted feel from every side. It is made from dolomite ceramic with a high-gloss finish, and at 0.58KG it is light enough to lift onto a high shelf with one hand.

At this size it is a vase for a single stem, a short bunch or a handful of dried flowers rather than a tall armful of branches, and its slim, upright shape lets one generous bloom stand on its own. It sits happily on a mantelpiece, a bookshelf, a windowsill or the corner of a desk, and it brings a welcome spot of colour to a bedside table or a hallway console. Because the raised pattern runs all the way round, it looks finished from any angle, which matters on an open shelf or a table seen from both sides. It suits anyone who likes bright, playful pieces at home, and it makes a cheerful housewarming gift. Left empty, it still holds its own as decoration.

Each vase is handpainted, and the brushwork shows in places, which is part of its charm. It does not go in the dishwasher, so clean it by hand, and it is not for the microwave or the oven. Treat it as a decorative piece for flowers and display. For styling, a single dried hydrangea head or a few grasses suit its scale, and a plain wall behind it lets the raised shapes show clearly.
