Description
Poldor is a cream stoneware vase with a cluster of rounded, raised bobbles wrapped around its middle, a little like a bunch of grapes pressed into the clay. Above the cluster the body narrows to a short, plain neck and a small round opening; below it, soft curving lines run down towards the base. At 15cm across and 19cm tall it is a compact piece for a table or shelf rather than a floor vase, and at 1.064KG it has a reassuring heft.
Its size suits the spots where a smaller vase does the most: a console or sideboard among books and candlesticks, a bedside table, a windowsill, the end of a bookshelf or the corner of a desk. The narrow opening gathers a few stems together, so it looks its best with a sparse arrangement: two or three dried grasses or a single curled dried leaf. On a dark wood or painted surface the cream glaze and the raised texture read strongly; on a pale shelf the effect is quieter and more tonal. The bobbles give it plenty of interest on their own, so it also works empty, as a sculptural object on a coffee table, a hallway shelf or a bedroom chest of drawers.
The vase is made entirely of stoneware, a dense ceramic fired at high temperature, which gives it its solid feel. The glossy glaze is speckled with small flecks of the clay, and it settles paler in the grooves between the bobbles, which picks out the pattern and gives the surface depth. The rim and the inside of the neck carry the same speckled finish. For styling, let the shape lead: choose stems taller than the vase, keep their colours to wheat, brown and soft green, and set it slightly off centre on a stack of books so the cluster catches side light.

Frequently Asked
What is the Poldor vase made of?
It is made entirely of stoneware, a dense, hard ceramic, finished in a glossy cream glaze speckled with small flecks of the clay.
How big is the vase?
It is 15cm across and 19cm tall, a compact size for a shelf, side table, windowsill or desk rather than the floor.
How heavy is it?
It weighs 1.064KG, so it feels solid and substantial for a compact vase of its size.
What suits this vase best?
Its small opening gathers a few stems, so it suits sparse arrangements of dried grasses or a single dried leaf; it also works empty as a sculptural piece.
Is the bobbled pattern raised?
Yes. Rounded bobbles stand proud of the surface around the middle of the vase, and the glaze settles paler in the grooves between them.
