Description
This is a round stoneware teapot that holds 825ml, a comfortable size for a pot of tea shared at the kitchen table. It is 14cm across and 12cm tall, with a low, rounded body, a short curved spout, a generous loop handle and a lid topped with a neat rounded knob. The green reactive glaze is flecked with fine speckles, and the edge of the lid and the tip of the spout carry a contrasting glazed rim that picks out the shape.
It suits anyone who likes to make tea properly in a pot: breakfast in the kitchen, a weekend brunch, a friend calling round in the afternoon, or a slow brew kept beside you at the desk. Stoneware holds heat well, and that is the quality you want in a teapot. There is no strainer inside, so it works well with tea bags, or with loose leaf if you pour through a separate tea strainer into the cup. A small hole in the lid lets steam out while the tea brews.
We have it from the maker as 100% stoneware finished in a reactive glaze. It goes in the dishwasher and in the microwave, but it is not for the oven. Before you brew, warm the pot with a splash of hot water from the kettle. A reactive glaze shifts as it fires, so the speckling and the depth of the green vary a little from one teapot to the next, and yours will be its own. It weighs 0.242KG. For a relaxed tea table, stand it on a woven trivet or a wooden board beside plain stoneware cups; the green sits well against dark wood and pale linen alike.
