Description
Our Pilu cabinet is a wall-hung display cupboard with two glazed doors, a moulded cornice across the top and an open rail beneath, all in a soft grey. It is made from firwood and MDF, with glass panes set into the doors, and measures 65cm long, 20cm wide and 70cm tall. That makes it a slim cabinet that sits close to the wall, so it gives you display space without taking over a room. Inside, a single shelf divides the cupboard into two compartments, and at 5.5KG it is a manageable weight to lift into place.
The glass doors keep a few favourite pieces on show while sheltering them from dust: ceramics, small vases, candleholders or keepsakes all suit the two compartments. It works well in a kitchen, where the rail beneath the doors is handy for tea towels or a few S-hooks with small hanging baskets, and it is just as useful in any room where a full dresser would be too big. The cabinet suits anyone who likes the country look of an old kitchen dresser but has only a short stretch of wall to spare.
The finish is a water based lacquer with a distressed effect, so the surfaces carry small marks and worn patches by design, giving the cabinet a lived-in character from the first day. The doors hang on hinges fixed to the outside of the frame and open with small round knobs. Care is simple: wipe it clean with a moist cloth. The maker's assembly instructions come as a PDF download. For styling, put the top of the cornice to work too: a low wooden box or a basket there adds height, and two or three pieces in each compartment read better behind glass than a crowded row.
