Our Phoenix butter dish comes in two parts, both in stoneware: a flat base with a low raised edge, and a deep lid that lifts away by the looped handle on top. The lid is painted by hand with broad upright stripes in two tones of blue, and the brush marks show in every stripe, so the pattern has the soft, slightly uneven line of real painting rather than a printed edge. It measures 14.5cm long, 11.5cm wide and 9.5cm tall, with a 440ml capacity under the lid, room enough for a block of butter.
