Description

The Payne is a single-light bathroom wall light built around a cylindrical opal etched glass shade capped at top and bottom with polished chrome spun metal rings. The shade mounts on a stepped polished chrome backplate through a multi-ringed articulated arm that adds depth and proportion to the 362mm height. A 3W G9 LED bulb is included, producing warm 3000K light diffused through the etched glass.

Designed for bathroom installation, the fitting carries an IP44 rating, protecting the internal components from water splashes when installed at least 600mm from the edge of a bath or shower tray. The 121mm projection from the wall and 127mm width suit either side of a bathroom mirror in pairs, or as single task lighting beside a shaving mirror or vanity area. The polished chrome finish pairs with chrome taps, shower fittings and towel rails in traditional and modern bathrooms.

The opal etched glass provides an even, shadowless diffusion rather than a hard directional beam, making the Payne better suited to ambient and mid-level task lighting than focused mirror work. The spun metal rings at the top and bottom of the glass cylinder add structural detail without interrupting the clean vertical line of the shade. The chrome backplate, arm and rings are solid metal rather than plated plastic, giving the fitting enough weight to feel substantial when handling during installation.

Can this be used in a bathroom shower zone?

The IP44 rating protects against water splashes but not direct spray. Install the Payne at least 600mm away from the edge of a bath or shower tray, which places it outside Zone 1 and complies with UK bathroom wiring regulations.

Does the bulb need to be replaced?

The fitting includes a 3W G9 LED bulb rated at 3000K. G9 bulbs are replaceable, so when the LED eventually reaches end-of-life a new G9 LED can be fitted. Most G9 LEDs are non-dimmable unless specifically labelled as dimmable-compatible.

What is the light output like?

The 3W G9 LED produces approximately 250 lumens diffused through the opal etched glass, giving a soft ambient glow rather than a bright directional beam. This suits general bathroom lighting or flanking a mirror in pairs, but may not provide enough focused light for close shaving or makeup application on its own.

Is the chrome finish lacquered?

The polished chrome is a plated finish over solid metal. It resists tarnishing better than unlacquered brass but will still benefit from occasional wiping with a soft dry cloth to remove water spots and fingerprints in a bathroom environment.
