Description
Our Paula side plate is made from 100% stoneware and finished in a reactive glaze, with soft bands of orange sprayed across a lighter, speckled ground. At 20cm across and 1.5cm tall it is a true side plate size: big enough for toast, a sandwich or a slice of cake, yet small enough to sit beside a dinner plate without crowding the table. A low, upturned rim runs around the edge, and a gentle diagonal line crosses the face where the glaze changes tone, so the pattern looks loose and painterly rather than printed.
This is a plate for everyday meals and small occasions alike. Use it for buttered toast and fruit at breakfast, a starter or a little salad at lunch, bread and butter beside a main course, or cake and biscuits when friends come round for tea. It works as well for cheese and crackers on a quiet night as for a quick snack at your desk. In a kitchen of plain crockery, the orange glaze adds warmth without shouting, and it suits a breakfast bar as happily as a dining table laid for guests.
Stoneware is fired hot, which makes it dense and hard-wearing for daily use. This plate goes in the dishwasher and the microwave, so warming a slice of quiche and clearing up afterwards are both simple, but it does not go in the oven. It weighs 0.48KG. Reactive glazes move and pool as they fire, so no two pieces finish exactly alike, and the spray of orange is part of the charm. For a relaxed table, lay one to the left of each dinner plate for bread, or stack a few on an open shelf where the glaze can show.

Frequently Asked
Can the plate go in the dishwasher?
Yes. The plate goes in the dishwasher, so it can go straight in with the rest of your everyday crockery after a meal.
Can I use it in the microwave or the oven?
It goes in the microwave for warming food, but it does not go in the oven, so keep it for serving rather than baking.
How big is the plate?
It is 20cm across and 1.5cm tall, a side plate size that suits toast, cake, starters or bread beside a larger dinner plate.
Which material is used for the plate?
It is made from 100% stoneware with a reactive glaze, which gives the orange bands their soft, sprayed and speckled look.
How heavy is it?
The plate weighs 0.48KG, which is worth knowing if you plan to stack several on an open shelf or in a cupboard.
Does each plate look the same?
Reactive glazes move and pool as they fire, so no two pieces finish exactly alike; expect small differences in the spread of orange.
