Description

A small ceramic jug, 15cm tall and 7.5cm across the body, with a pulled lip at the front and a large loop handle standing well clear of the wall. The body is painted in vertical bands: broad brushstrokes of soft clay brown alternating with cream, and between them a fine line of dots running from rim to foot. The brushwork is loose, so the bands vary in width and the dotted lines wander a little off true.

At 15cm, with a handle sized for a whole hand, this is a jug for milk, cream or a dressing brought to the table rather than water for a room. It sits in with the rest of the Patthar range on a laid table, alongside taller pieces carrying the same painting. A larger Patthar jug is made at 21.5cm.

The jug is ceramic and every one is painted individually, freehand rather than transferred, by a small number of makers who do this work. That means the width of the bands, the spacing of the dots and the point where a stroke thins out and ends are different on every jug. The Patthar range also runs to plates, bowls, mugs, a teapot and a butter dish in the same painting.

Frequently Asked

How big is it?

15cm tall and 7.5cm across the body.

Is it food safe?

Yes.

Does it come in a larger size?

Yes. There is a larger Patthar jug at 21.5cm tall.

Will every jug look the same?

Closely, but not exactly. Every jug is painted by hand, so the bands and the dotted lines fall a little differently on each one.

Can it go in the dishwasher?

It is dishwasher safe. Handwash only, with a mild detergent and no soaking, and wash it after every use so it does not stain.
