Description

Two small ceramic mugs, each 6.5cm tall and 8cm across, holding 200ml. The body is close to straight-sided with a plain round handle, and the surface is painted by hand: columns of short dashes in a soft clay tone run from just below the rim down to the foot and all the way round, with a plain cream band left at the top. The columns are set out by eye, so they fall at slightly different intervals on each mug.

At 200ml these hold a short coffee or a small tea rather than a breakfast fill, and at 6.5cm they sit low on a saucer or a board. Two come in a set, so they work as a pair on a tray rather than as a single cup. They are food safe and go in the dishwasher.

The mugs are ceramic. Each one is painted individually on the soft clay surface with fine brushstrokes, a process that takes a level of precision and control only a handful of makers have, and it is why every mug is a little different from the next. The Patthar mug is also made in a larger size and in two other colourways, and the range runs on to plates, bowls, a teapot, a jug and a butter dish.
