Description

A pair of large ceramic mugs, each 7cm tall and 10cm across and holding 370ml. The surface is painted by hand in clay-toned brush stripes that run from rim to base, each one set off by a line of fine brown dots. Every mug is painted on its own, so the marks fall differently on each one and no two are alike.

At 370ml these are large mugs rather than teacups. Morning coffee and evening tea are the two uses they are made for. The proportion is squat, 7cm tall against 10cm across, so each one sits low and wide on a table rather than standing tall. They belong to the wider Patthar range.

The mugs are ceramic. The painting is done on the soft clay surface one mug at a time, with a precision and control that only a few makers have. Two come in a set, and because each is painted separately the two in a set will not match each other exactly.
