Description

The Patthar side plate is ceramic, 22.5cm across and 2cm deep, with a broad sloping rim around a small flat well. Blocks of clay toned colour are painted around that rim, radiating outward, and between every pair of blocks a fine line of dots runs from the well to the edge. The ground under the painting is cream, and the brushwork is uneven from block to block, denser in the middle of a stroke and thinner where it runs out.

At 22.5cm this is a side plate rather than a dinner plate, and the width of the rim means bread, a pastry or a small pudding sits in the well without covering the painting. The well itself is shallow and flat, so it takes dry food rather than anything with a sauce. A mug and a jug carry the same painting.

The plate is ceramic and every block and every row of dots is brushed on by hand, so the blocks differ in width and in depth of colour from one plate to the next. The ceramic is safe for food. Eighteen Patthar pieces are made in all, among them mugs, bowls, jugs, a teapot, a dinner plate and a set of twelve.

Frequently Asked

How big is the side plate?

22.5cm across and 2cm deep.

Can it go in the dishwasher?

It is dishwasher safe. Handwashing with a mild detergent is recommended, and it should not be left to soak.

Is it safe for food?

Yes.

Is the painting done by hand?

Yes. Each block and each row of dots is brushed on individually, which is why no two plates carry quite the same rim.

How do I look after it?

Wash it after every use so it does not stain. Handwash only, using a mild detergent, and do not leave it to soak. Handle it with care.
