Description
The Patthar cereal bowl is a shallow ceramic bowl, 17cm across and 6cm deep, flaring out from a small foot ring to a plain rim. Inside it is cream and unmarked. Outside, broad brush strokes in a soft clay tone run from the foot towards the rim, alternating with bands of bare cream, and between each pair of strokes a line of small dark dots is painted from the bottom up. The brushwork stops short of the rim, which is left cream all the way round.
At 17cm across and 6cm deep this is breakfast bowl size: cereal, porridge, soup or a helping of pasta. The sides flare out rather than rising straight, so a spoon works across a shallow floor instead of down into a well, and on the table it reads as a wide dish rather than a deep one. It is dishwasher safe and food safe.
The bowl is ceramic and the decoration is painted by hand, stroke by stroke, so the width of the clay bands and the spacing of the dots differ from bowl to bowl and none lines up exactly with the next. The Patthar range runs to a dinner plate, a side plate, a pasta bowl, a serving bowl, mugs, a jug, a teapot, a cup and saucer, egg cups and a butter dish, and to a twelve piece dinnerware set.
