Description
These three small stoneware egg cups are each 4.5cm across and 5cm tall, with a 50ml capacity that holds a boiled egg upright for breakfast. Every cup in the set of three has its own pattern: one has broad stripes, one a repeat of small diamond motifs and one is covered in tiny dots, and each is finished with a contrasting band at the rim. The patterns come from a decal print with details painted by hand, which gives the multicoloured trio a cheerful, lightly handmade look. Stoneware is a dense, sturdy ceramic that holds heat well, which suits an egg straight from the pan.
They belong on the breakfast table first of all: a soft-boiled egg and toast soldiers on a slow weekend morning, a busy family breakfast before school, or a brunch for friends where each guest gets a different pattern. Because no two of the three match, it is easy to keep track of whose egg is whose. At this size they also work as little pots for salt, a pat of butter or a spoonful of jam beside a plate, and they sit neatly on a tray for breakfast in bed. They suit a country kitchen, a pared-back modern table or anyone who likes a little pattern without fuss.
Looking after them is easy. The cups go in the dishwasher, and they can also go in the microwave and the oven, so you can warm them through before the eggs go in on a cold morning. The finish is a decal print with hand-painted details, so the brushwork adds small touches of character to each cup. For the table, line all three up along a plain plate or a wooden board and let the three patterns do the talking; the styling props shown are not included.
