Description

Paris is a pendant in white. A wide pleated shade in white, its folds running from a narrow turned collar at the top out to a skirt that flares and then turns down at the rim. The pleating is fine and regular and the shade is shallow for its width, so it reads as a disc rather than a cone. The collar is pale turned wood above a slim brass ring, and a white flex runs up from it. Light comes through the pleats as well as out of the open bottom, so the fold lines show as a ring of fine highlights when it is lit. The rim is left open with no diffuser across it. It measures 24cm across.

It suits a table, an island or a hallway, hung low enough to be looked at rather than into. Hang it so the bottom of the shade sits about 80cm above the surface, a little higher if people walk beneath it rather than sit under it. Hung at that height the shade is read as an object in the room rather than as a source, and the light lands on the table instead of in the eyes of the people round it.

The holder is G9 and takes up to 7W. It wires into a fixed outlet at a terminal block, which is work for a competent electrician. It is class II, double insulated, so it needs no earth, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

Which bulb does it take?

A G9 lamp up to 28W. Bulbs are supplied separately so you can choose the brightness and colour you want.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, on a compatible dimmer, provided the lamp you fit is a dimmable one. The fitting has no dimmer of its own.

How high should it hang above a dining table?

About 80cm from the table top to the bottom of the shade. Go higher over an island people walk past, and lower over a table nobody passes beneath.

Does it need an electrician?

Yes. It wires into a fixed outlet at a terminal block.

Does it need an earth?

No. It is class II, double insulated, so it is wired live and neutral only.

Can it go in a bathroom?

No. It is IP20, which covers dry interior rooms only. A bathroom needs IP44 or better.
