Description

The Pania is a picture light of the traditional kind: a long half round brass trough, 25cm across and open along its whole underside, carried on a stepped rectangular bracket that fixes to the wall above it. A knurled knob sits on the bracket. The brass is aged, warmer on the tube than on the bracket. The tube itself is only 6.5cm deep, and the fitting stands 20cm out from the wall.

The shape is what makes it a picture light: an open trough spreads light down the face of a painting in an even wash instead of putting a spot in the middle of it. Mounted above a framed picture, the light falls down across the frame and leaves the wall below dark. It takes one G9 bulb, it is suitable for use with a dimmer switch, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms. No bulb is included.

The fitting is iron under an antique brass finish. The bracket is stepped and moulded rather than flat, which is the detail that dates the design.
