Description

These are Panasonic D cells in a blister pack of two, the large cylindrical size that sits at the top of the round battery family. The chemistry is zinc carbon, printed on the pack as zinc chloride, and the nominal voltage is 1.5V, the same as an alkaline cell of the same size. The IEC code for this cell is R20. The pack carries the 0% added lead, mercury and cadmium mark.

Zinc carbon is the low drain chemistry, and that is exactly what the pack says these are for: low power products. Yes. R20 and LR20 share the same D size and the same 1.5V nominal output, so a holder built for one accepts the other without any adaptor.

Are these rechargeable?

No, zinc carbon cells are single use and should not be put on a charger. Once they are flat, take them out of the device and replace both together.

Are they a good choice for a torch used every day?

For a torch kept for occasional use they are fine. If you run a big lamp for long stretches most days, an alkaline D cell will give you far more hours per change.
