Description

Panasonic D size zinc carbon batteries deliver 1.5V nominal voltage per cell in a cylindrical format measuring approximately 61mm tall by 34mm diameter. These are packaged as a 2-pack and suit low-drain devices that draw power intermittently rather than continuously, such as wall clocks, small torches, remote controls and basic toys.

Zinc carbon chemistry provides a lower-cost alternative to alkaline batteries for applications where long shelf life and high-drain performance are not required. The batteries perform best in devices that use power in short bursts with long rest periods between activations, allowing the cell chemistry to recover between draws. Continuous high-drain use will deplete zinc carbon batteries more quickly than alkaline equivalents.

Each D cell uses zinc chloride electrolyte inside a cylindrical steel can with a positive carbon rod electrode. The 2-pack blister card keeps the batteries protected until needed and the cells carry alternative codes 13G, R20P, 1250 and D for cross-reference with device manuals. The pack dimensions are 120mm wide by 83mm tall by 34mm deep, and the total weight including packaging is 0.22kg.

Frequently Asked

What devices are zinc carbon D batteries best for?

Zinc carbon D batteries suit low-drain devices with intermittent power use such as wall clocks, basic torches, remote controls and simple battery-operated toys. They are less suitable for high-drain devices like digital cameras, motorised toys or audio equipment that draw continuous power.

How do zinc carbon batteries differ from alkaline?

Zinc carbon batteries use zinc chloride electrolyte and offer lower capacity and shorter run-time than alkaline batteries, but at a lower cost. They perform best in low-drain applications with intermittent use. Alkaline batteries deliver higher energy density and better performance under continuous or high-drain loads.

What are the alternative codes for D size batteries?

D size cells are also known by alternative codes including 13G, R20P, 1250 and D. These codes may appear in device manuals or battery compartment markings and all refer to the same cylindrical cell format.

What voltage do these batteries provide?

Each D cell provides 1.5V nominal voltage when fresh. Voltage will drop gradually as the cell depletes, with most devices ceasing to function once the cell voltage falls below approximately 0.9-1.0V.
