Our Paddy table lamp is a small glass mushroom: a smooth domed shade resting on a short, slightly flared base, all in a glossy pink. It stands 26.5cm tall and 20cm across, a compact size that fits a bedside table, a desk or a shelf without crowding it. The lamp is 85% glass and 15% iron and weighs 0.68KG, light enough to move from room to room as you please. Switched off, it reads as a piece of pink glass; switched on, the whole dome glows.

It is a lamp for gentle light close at hand. It takes an E14 bulb, the small screw cap, at a maximum of LED 3W or CFL 7W, so it suits evenings by the bed, a glow on a bookcase, a hallway table or the end of a sofa rather than lighting a whole room. The clear cable is 180cm long, giving you a good reach to a socket, and the switch sits on the cord, so you can turn it on without feeling around the back of the lamp. It is rated IP20, which means dry rooms only: a bedroom, living room, study or hallway is where it belongs.

The glass has a high gloss over the dome and base, so it catches the daylight and looks finished from every side.
