Description
This little Christmas tree is made from 100% sisal, a natural fibre taken from the leaves of the agave plant. The fibres form fine green bristles that wind round in a loose spiral, so instead of a neat, even cone the outline steps in and out as it climbs from the base to its narrow tip. It stands 15cm tall and 7cm across, which makes it a tabletop decoration rather than a tree for the floor, and at 0.02KG it weighs next to nothing.
Being so small, it fits where a full tree never could: the end of a mantelpiece, a kitchen windowsill, the corner of a desk, a bedside table or a gap on a bookshelf. We like it for a flat, a student room or an office, anywhere you want a touch of Christmas without giving up floor space. The soft, matt green sits comfortably with natural wood, linen, paper stars and other simple decorations, and it makes a thoughtful small gift tucked into a stocking. It also works as a little marker beside a place setting at the Christmas table.
The bristles are sisal and the tree stands on a round base that keeps it upright on a shelf or table. Sisal is a plant fibre, and natural fibres are rarely perfectly uniform, so a few stray strands and a slightly uneven spiral are part of its charm rather than a flaw. Because it is so light, it is easy to move around as you rearrange your decorations through December, and it packs away into a small box once the season is over. For a little more presence, stand it on a short stack of books or a wooden board to lift it, or group it with pinecones and a sprig of greenery for a simple winter scene.
