Description

The single Otoro wall light: a round brass plate fixed on two screws, one brass arm curving out and down, and a flattened round shade of clear recycled glass on a ribbed brass collar. The glass is thin, carries small bubbles, and is open at the bottom, so the bulb sits in plain sight inside it. It is 18cm tall, 14cm wide and projects 18cm from the wall.

One shade on a small plate is the version that fits where the double will not: a narrow stretch of wall, the side of a chimney breast, a hallway that people walk close to. It takes one E14 bulb up to 25W, it works on a dimmer, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

The glass is recycled, crushed and melted, then blown by hand into a mould, so no two shades carry the same bubbles or the same wall thickness. The metalwork is aluminium under an antique brass finish. The Otoro range runs to nineteen pieces: round and oval shades in small and large, in clear, green, smoke and honey, plus a cluster pendant and four wall lights, of which this is the single in clear.

No. It takes one E14 bulb up to 25W.

Is the bulb visible?

Yes. The glass is clear and the shade is open at the bottom, so the bulb is in full view.

How does it compare with the double?

Same shade and the same fittings, one of them instead of two. This one is 18cm tall and projects 18cm; the double is 20cm tall and projects 30cm.

Can it go on a dimmer?

Yes.

How do I clean it?

Turn it off, then wipe the glass with a soft dry microfibre cloth, working in circles. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners off it.
