Description

A cheese knife and a butter knife, sold as a pair. The cheese knife is 21cm long, with a blade that rises slightly along its length and ends in a two pronged fork cut into the tip. The butter knife is 17cm, with a rounded end and a blunt edge. Both blades are stainless steel, left plain and bright. Both handles are brass under a brushed gold finish, widest where they meet the blade and tapering to a rounded end, and the surface is beaten so that it holds small flat facets instead of running smooth.

The fork on the cheese knife lifts a cut piece and carries it to a plate without a second implement, and at 21cm the blade reaches across a board of any ordinary size. The butter knife spreads rather than cuts, which is what the rounded end and the blunt edge are for. Between them the two cover a cheeseboard, and both are short enough to rest on the board itself rather than alongside it. The set arrives in a gift box.

The blades are stainless steel and the handles are brass, forged by hand using traditional techniques and then finished in brushed gold. Because the forging is done piece by piece, the hammer marks fall differently on every handle, so the two knives in a set do not match each other exactly. The same handle is also made in brushed silver.
