Description

A wall mounted bathroom shelf, 33cm wide and 12.5cm high, reaching 13.5cm out from the wall. It is built as an open cage: a flat plate at each end takes the screws, and a rod frame runs out from them to carry a base of flat slats set with a narrow gap between each one. A gallery rail runs round the front and both ends at the top. The metal is sandcast, so the surfaces are slightly uneven and the patination varies across them, and the whole piece is finished in antique brass.

At 33cm the shelf takes a pump bottle, two or three jars and a folded flannel, and the slatted base lets water run through rather than pool under anything wet. The rail holds what is standing on it in place. It fixes through the two end plates, which sit flat to the wall, and it is suitable for bathroom use.

The shelf is stainless steel, cast in a sand mould and then given an antique brass finish. The mould is sand, so the casting comes out rough rather than exact and the patination falls unevenly across it, and one shelf differs from the next. The lacquer over the finish is there to stand up to moisture and steam. The Olani range also runs to a towel ring, a toilet roll holder, hooks and two sizes of hanging rail.
