Description

The Okota is a wall clock made as a single disc of aluminium, 58cm across and 3cm deep, dished so the centre sits lower than the outer rim. There are no numerals on it and no markers of any kind: two slim brass hands, an hour and a minute, turn on a small raised boss at the middle of an otherwise open face. The antique brass finish is pitted and unevenly worked, pale gold where the surface stands proud and dropping to a dark brown in the hollows and round the rim.

At 58cm across this is a wall piece before it is a clock, and it hangs on its own better than in a group, where the plain disc would compete. The dish shape means it catches light across the face rather than flat, so the tone moves through the day. Without numerals the time is read off the angle of the hands, which is quicker at arm's length than from the other end of a room, so a hall, a landing or a kitchen wall suits it better than the far end of a sitting room. It is 3cm deep, so it sits close in against the wall, and it weighs 3.6kg.

The clock is aluminium, cast and then given its antique brass finish by hand. That finish is what varies: the pitting, the run of the dark and the exact warmth of the gold differ across every one, so no two faces are marked alike. The Okota wall clock is also made in a smaller size.

Does it have numbers on the face?

No. There are no numerals and no markers, only the hour and minute hands.

What is it made from?

Aluminium, with an antique brass finish.

Is there a smaller one?

Yes. The Okota wall clock is made in a smaller size as well as this one.
