Description
The Obi is a small table lantern built as a glazed box, 15cm high, 12cm wide and 6cm deep, framed in iron with an antique brass finish. Four panes of clear glass sit between the corner posts, and one of them is a door, held shut by a slim pin that lifts out of its loops so the pane swings clear. The floor is bare galvanised metal and the roof carries a shallow open trough, with a looped wire bracket to either side of it.
It takes a tealight, standing on the metal floor. At 6cm deep it sits on a narrow mantelpiece without overhanging the front, and it belongs equally on a dining table or a sideboard. Because the glass runs on all four sides the flame shows from any direction, and the frame reads as four thin dark lines rather than as a solid edge. The 15cm height is taken over the trough on the roof, so the glazed box itself is shorter than that.
The frame is iron and the panes are glass, under an antique brass finish that has been worked to look aged rather than bright. The Obi is made in two sizes, this one and a smaller version. It is sold singly, and the candle is not included.

Frequently Asked
How big is the lantern?
15cm high, 12cm wide and 6cm deep, with the height taken over the trough on the roof.
How does the door open?
A slim pin lifts out of its loops and the glass pane swings clear, so a candle can be set on the floor of the lantern by hand.
What candle does it take?
A tealight, standing on the metal floor.
Is it sold singly?
Yes. This is one lantern.
How do I look after it?
Wipe it over with a soft, dry cloth to stop dust building up, and use a microfibre cloth in a circular motion on the glass. Warm water with a mild dish soap will take off excess wax; dry it straight away and do not leave it to soak. It is for indoor use only.
Does it get hot in use?
Yes. Stand the candle securely and keep the flame away from the glass, keep it out of reach of children, wait until it has cooled fully before handling it, and never leave a burning candle unattended.
