Nyiruan Large Glass Lantern - Brass & Clear

The Nyiruan lantern stands 47.5cm tall on a six sided glass body, the panels set into a thin metal frame under an aged brass finish. The body flares from the base to a shoulder about a third of the way up, then draws in through a long taper to a pierced dome and a spire at the top. One panel is hinged as a door and closes on a small wire hook.

The dome is punched through with rows of small teardrops and dots, so with a candle lit inside the light leaves through the top as well as the glass, and the punching throws its own pattern onto the wall or ceiling above. At 47.5cm this is the large of two sizes, tall enough to stand on the floor beside a fireplace or a doorway as readily as on a hall table.

The panels are recycled glass and the frame is metal. Waste glass is collected and washed before it is crushed and melted down, and the frame is shaped by hand with the pattern punched through using traditional tools, so the brass sits unevenly and no two lanterns carry the same punch marks. A smaller Nyiruan lantern is also made. The candle is not included.

How big is the large Nyiruan lantern?

47.5cm tall, 19.5cm wide and 18cm deep.

How does the candle go in?

One of the glass panels is hinged as a door and held shut by a small wire hook.

Can it go outside?

Indoor use only.

Is a candle included?

No.

How do I look after it?

Wipe it regularly with a soft, dry cloth, and use a microfibre cloth in a circular motion on the glass. Warm water with a mild dish soap will take off built up wax, but dry it straight away and do not let it soak. Stand the candle securely and keep the flame off the glass. The lantern gets hot in use, so keep it away from children, let it cool fully before handling it, and never leave a burning candle unattended.
