Description

This is a stoneware vase with a sculpted outline that rewards a second look. A raised band wraps diagonally around the lower half of the body and meets a slim vertical ridge that runs straight up one side to the rim, so the vase looks a little different from every angle. The body is a gently rounded cylinder that curves in at the base, finished in a mottled blue with a fine speckle. It measures 11.5cm across and 18.5cm tall.

Its compact size suits a shelf, a mantelpiece, a windowsill or the end of a console table, where it is seen at close quarters and the raised band catches the light. One sculptural stem, such as a dried allium or a seed head, keeps the shape of the vase in view, while a fuller bunch would hide the ridge.
