Description

This is a small stoneware cup, painted by hand in multicoloured stripes that run from the rim to the base and carry on round the loop of the handle. It holds 110ml and measures 7.5cm across and 5.5cm tall, a size made for a child's hands rather than a grown-up's morning brew. The body is gently irregular and opens out a little towards the wide rim, and the stripes have the soft edges and loose lines that only a brush gives, so it looks drawn rather than printed. At 0.11KG it is light and easy for small hands to lift.

As children's tableware, it suits a little one's milk, water or juice at breakfast or teatime, and it brings a proper cup to a tea party at a child's table, where a small measure makes more sense than a full mug.
