Description

This little stoneware cup is made for children, painted by hand with dots across a pink body and finished with a striped ring handle. It holds 100ml and is 6.5cm across and 5.5cm tall, which makes it a small cup rather than a mug: the right measure for a few mouthfuls of milk, water or juice, and a size small hands can manage. Made from 100% stoneware and weighing 0.12KG, it has the solid feel of real crockery while staying light enough for a child to lift with ease.

It belongs at the children's table for breakfast, at a dolls' tea party or a birthday spread, and it looks just as cheerful resting on a bedroom shelf among favourite books between mealtimes. Grown-ups borrow it too: 100ml is a good measure for an espresso, so it earns a place beside the coffee machine as readily as in the nursery. The round ring handle gives small fingers an easy loop, and the bright dots and stripes suit a playroom, a sunny kitchen or a nursery dresser. It makes a thoughtful christening or birthday present, particularly for a child who likes having a cup of their own.

Because the decoration is painted by hand, each cup carries its own small variations in the size and spacing of the dots. Stoneware is dense and holds heat well, and caring for this cup is simple: it goes in the dishwasher and the microwave, and it can go in the oven too, handy for warming a small portion of rice pudding or a little baked custard. For a cheerful table, set it beside plain white plates and let the pattern do the talking, or keep it on an open shelf as a small splash of colour between uses.
