Nidra 220 x 140cm Velvet Quilted Bedspread - Rust

The Nidra bedspread has a cotton velvet face in rust and a natural linen back, quilted right through in rows of hand worked Kantha stitch. It measures 220cm by 140cm. The stitched lines run parallel a few centimetres apart across the whole width, and the velvet lifts into a soft rib between each pair, so the surface reads as ribbed rather than flat. A contrast thread is worked on the linen side.

At 220cm by 140cm the long edge runs across the width of a bed rather than down it. Laid over the foot of a bed it covers the lower half of the mattress and falls far enough at each side to reach the base. The velvet face is the side that shows, and the linen goes against the bedding underneath.

The face is cotton velvet and the back is linen. The Kantha quilting is sewn by hand, so the lines wander a little and the grid is never twice the same. The Nidra range runs in two sizes, 220 by 140cm and 220 by 240cm, and in rust, charcoal, moss, sage green, dusty pink and natural. Sheets and pillowcases are not included.

What is Kantha stitch?

A running stitch worked by hand in rows through both layers. It holds the velvet and the linen together and it is what gives the surface its ribbing.

Do the two sides look different?

Yes. One side is rust cotton velvet and the other is natural linen, with a contrast stitch worked across it.

How is it washed?

Follow the care label on the product. The temperature it gives is a maximum, and washing cooler uses less energy. The fabric softens with every wash. Line drying gives the best result, or tumble on low and take it out promptly.
