Description
The Ngolo is a hand blown vase, 28cm tall and 20cm across, with a rounded base that rises into a straight taper and opens out again at the mouth. The upper two thirds are clouded grey glass, matt rather than clear. The lowest third carries an antique finish in cream, sand and rust that breaks into the grey along a speckled line rather than a sharp edge. The rim is left uneven where the glass was worked, dipping and rising around the opening.
At 28cm tall the vase takes long stems, and the mouth is wide enough at 20cm for a loose armful rather than a single flower. The base is fully rounded, so it wants a flat surface: a sideboard, a dining table or a hearth. The glass is opaque, so the water line and the cut ends of the stems stay out of sight. Three Ngolo tealight holders are made in the same aged smoke, in small, medium and large, and stood together they carry the finish across a table.
The glass is recycled. Waste glass is collected and freed of impurities, then crushed and melted down before it is blown into a mould. The smoked and antique finishes go on afterwards and are worked by hand, so the line where one gives way to the other sits at a different height on every vase. The Ngolo range also holds a wine cooler and a set of baubles in the same finish.

Frequently Asked
How big is the vase?
28cm tall and 20cm across.
Can you see through the glass?
No. The upper part is clouded and matt and the base carries an antique finish over it, so the vase is opaque from every angle.
Is the glass recycled?
Yes. It is made from waste glass, crushed and melted down before it is blown.
Will every vase look the same?
No. The glass is blown into a mould and the finishes are worked by hand, so the height of the line between them and the pattern of the rust and cream differ on every vase.
How should I look after it?
Wipe it with a soft, damp cloth. Hand wash only, using a mild dish soap, and do not scrub the outside.
