Description

The Newtown is a black pendant light built around an open cage of slim steel wires. The wires run from a ring at the top, swell out at the shoulder and draw in again towards a narrower open ring at the base, giving a light, airy lantern shape. It measures 27.5cm across and hangs 110cm tall overall, from the round ceiling canopy to the base of the cage. Inside sits a black E27 lampholder that takes a bulb of up to 60W, and the bulb is not included, so you choose the light it gives. It is rated IP20, which settles where it belongs: indoors, in a dry room.

We see it most at home over a dining table, where the 27.5cm cage gives a clear point of focus without crowding the space, but it is just as happy over a kitchen table, in a hallway or above a reading chair. The open wires let the light reach the room through every gap, so the bulb itself becomes part of the look, and the black finish sits comfortably in an industrial loft, a modern flat or a more traditional home. Being IP20, it is a choice for the dry rooms of the house, not a bathroom or a porch.

The cage is made from steel and finished in black, with a black lampholder, cord and round ceiling canopy to match. There is no switch on the light itself: it is switched at the wall, and it runs on 220-240V, 50/60Hz mains. As a wired-in mains light, it should be installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions are available as a download. The packed weight is 1.707KG.
