Description

The Narwana is a backless stool with a padded leather seat on a frame of thin iron rod. The seat is a shallow saddle, dipped through the middle and lifted at each end, quilted into ribs that run across it from front to back. The leather is aged tan and the finish is left rustic, so the grain and the depth of colour shift from one rib to the next. Four legs splay out from under the seat, and a single length of bent rod loops between them low down as a footrail.

The seat sits 60cm from the floor, which is counter height rather than dining table height, so this is a stool for a kitchen island, a breakfast bar or a high work surface. The legs splay to 46cm wide and 38.5cm deep where they meet the floor, against a seat 38.5cm wide and 28cm deep, so the footprint is wider than the seat suggests. The saddle shape means it is made to be sat on square rather than sideways.

The seat is goat leather over a padded core and the frame is iron. The hide is a by-product of herds kept by local farmers, and it is dyed with vegetable extract and tree bark, so the colour goes on deepening with use rather than fading out. The Narwana range also holds a larger stool in the same ribbed leather, along with a foot stool and an armchair.
