Description

The Narwana footstool is a pad of tan leather on an iron frame. The leather is channelled into raised ribs that run front to back across the top, stitched through between each one so the ribs stand proud and the surface reads as a row of rolls rather than a flat cushion. Underneath, flat iron bars cross in an X at each side and flare outwards to four feet, with a straight bar running between them low down.

It stands 39cm from the floor with a top of 40 by 48cm, deeper than it is wide, which takes both feet side by side rather than one. The frame is open underneath, so in a small sitting room the stool reads as a light object rather than a solid block. It was made to go with the Narwana chairs and stands on its own at the end of a bed or beside a fire.

The top is goat leather, a by-product, taken from herds farmed by local herdsmen and dyed with vegetable extract and tree bark, which is why the colour enriches further with age. The frame is iron with a rustic finish, darkened unevenly across the bars rather than laid on in one even tone. Narwana also runs to a lounger, an armchair, a desk chair, a bar chair and round stools.

Frequently Asked

Is it sold singly?

Yes. This is one footstool.

What leather is it?

Goat leather, a by-product, from herds farmed by local herdsmen. It is dyed with vegetable extract and tree bark rather than with a synthetic dye.

Will the colour change?

Yes. The vegetable dye means the leather enriches further with time, so the tan will deepen where it is used most.

How do I look after the leather?

Wipe it with a soft dry cloth. Keep chemicals and household cleaners off it, since they will damage the finish. To stop the leather drying out and cracking, feed it with a specialist leather product, or with petroleum jelly or flax oil.
