This is the Nans vase, a terracotta piece shaped like a footed cup: a wide, flared bowl narrows into a slim stem and settles onto a broader foot. It is made from 100% terracotta in a natural colour, and the outside carries bold painted shapes, curls, dashes and dots scattered across a fine, grainy surface, so each side of the vase looks a little different. At 23cm across and 27cm tall it is a mid-sized vase, big enough to hold its own on a sideboard or the floor. It weighs 3.7KG, so it is a solid, weighty piece that sits firmly wherever it is placed.
