Description

The small Nalbari pizza board is a round disc of mango wood, 32cm across and 2cm thick, with a short flat handle that takes the whole board to 43cm. The face is pieced together from strips laid in a herringbone, so the grain runs one way and then the other across every band, and the tones sit between pale straw and light honey. A hole through the handle carries a narrow tan tie.

At 32cm the round face is sized for a pizza, a flatbread, or mezze and antipasti laid out from the middle. The handle means it carries flat in one hand and turns on the spot once it is down, so everyone at a table can reach across it. Stood against a wall or hung by the tie it stays out of a drawer between uses.

The wood is mango throughout, food safe, with a natural finish. The board is pieced from segments, so the colour changes band by band, and that variation is the timber rather than a stain. Mango is grown first as a fruit tree and cut for timber only after it stops bearing, which lets the growers replant and keeps the wood in supply. Nalbari also makes this board in a large with a 46cm face, three chopping boards and a set of coasters.
